Choles Releases RAVE AZTEKA etc.

Choles Releases

CR003 - El Rave Azteka (Compilación)The Mayan calendar ended, and with rave rhythms, the Aztecs are celebrating that the world is still here. But change is taking place. Choles Records’s massive cross-border compilation prophesies a new future full of pre-hispanik wisdom and hardstyle tension. Our destiny is 3BALL. And from Mexico City to Virginia, the artists included in “El Rave Azteca” epitomize the spectrum of its sonic capabilities. Take Pacheko’s “3ball City” for instance. The track’s like a day with your Sim in Techno-titlan. Corcovado’s “This Love Is Real” is what UK Funky would be if global warming were to turn London fog into Quetzal paradise. The whole comp is worth more than gold. Nahuatl vocal samples, dubby bass slurps, Ibiza-like breakdowns, and guarachero drumming come all together years before someone like Lady Gaga or her replacement co-opt in the name of capital this pure energy. But until then, the download’s free and Choles is the progenitor.

CR002 - Dj Charly De Chicago - Para El Mundo
Dj Charly de Chicago’s sound goes hard and fearlessly into the villa with a stupid-real attitude not to be fucked with. Shout outs. Pitched and chopped vocals. Rebajadas. Each cumbia’s chug bops along, maxing out your monitors into the red zone, where late-night caguamas make you forget that keeping everything in the green is the safe way to go. The energy’s too strong. The beat kicks. The sonideras move between technical playfulness and an older familiarity. Their charm is in their party-ready wepa that still stays organic and close to the originals, like Choles Records’ first and future releases. With your head moving left and right, all you want is everything to be as loud as possible, for your neighbors to wake with terror, for Dj Charly de Chicago to tell them the music’s not stopping until mid-morning.
tracklist:

1. Sueltame La Kumbia
2. Kumbia Del Kantinero
3. Kumbia Del Pobre Amor
4. Kumbia Negra Yo Soy
5. La Kumbia Rebajada

CR001 - Chico Ye - El Sonido Matador
“After working with genres like 3-ball guarachero and reggaeton, the South Texas artist, Chico Ye, proves his production versatility with the release of his new album “El Sonido Matador.” The delayed grooves and historically aware beats of Chico Ye’s tracks match the 100+ degree weather that’s cooking the Rio Grande Valley. Imagine yourself sipping on a Pacifico in a little cantina that opens onto the street. The night’s hot, you’re wiping the sweat off your brow, and in the corner of the room the dj’s playing something like “El pescador de mi tierra.” Nothing’s out of the ordinary, you think, until he starts mixing in the next track. The drums punch harder, the beat’s funkier, and the accordion sounds like it’s still playing from the previous song. Then, suddenly, you hear a Lil’ John sample. The crowd, old and young, gets up to dance. You’ve never heard a cumbia so organic and yet so perfectly made for the contemporary club. Walking up to the dj, you ask, “Who’s this?” And he responds, “It’s Chico Ye.” - Christopher Perez
tracklist:
1. Cumbia de los Angeles
2. Cumbia Zenaida
3. La Colombiana
4. La Primorosa
5. Chica Revoltosa
6. Cumbia Sampuesana
7. Menea
8. Colegiala Dub
9. La Colombiana (Rebajada)
